URINE SUGAR RANDOM
The Urine Sugar (Random) test checks for the presence of glucose in the urine at any time of the day, without the need for fasting or timing with meals. Normally, glucose is not present in urine, as the kidneys reabsorb it into the bloodstream. Its presence in urine (glycosuria) usually indicates elevated blood sugar levels.
A positive urine sugar result may suggest diabetes mellitus or poor blood glucose control. It can also be seen in certain kidney conditions where glucose is not properly reabsorbed. This test is often used as a quick screening tool, especially when symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss are present.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample. While it is not as precise as blood glucose testing, it provides useful preliminary information and helps determine the need for further diagnostic tests and appropriate management.
