URINE SUGAR (FAST)
The Urine Sugar (Fasting) test measures the presence of glucose in the urine after an overnight fast. Under normal conditions, glucose is not found in urine because the kidneys reabsorb it back into the bloodstream. Its presence (glycosuria) usually indicates elevated blood sugar levels.
A positive fasting urine sugar test may suggest diabetes mellitus or poor glucose control. It can also occur in certain kidney conditions where glucose is not properly reabsorbed. Doctors may recommend this test when symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss are present, or as part of routine screening.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample collected after fasting. While it is not as accurate as blood glucose testing, it provides useful preliminary information and helps determine the need for further evaluation and diagnosis.
