URINE SUGAR
The Urine Sugar test measures the presence of glucose in the urine. Under normal conditions, glucose is not found in urine because the kidneys reabsorb it into the bloodstream. The presence of sugar in urine (glycosuria) usually indicates elevated blood glucose levels.
A positive urine sugar test may suggest diabetes mellitus or poor blood sugar control. It can also occur in certain kidney conditions where glucose is not properly reabsorbed. This test is often used as a preliminary screening tool or for monitoring diabetes, especially when symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, or unexplained weight loss are present.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample. While it is less accurate than blood glucose testing, it provides useful initial information and helps guide further diagnostic tests and appropriate management.
