URINE FOR CYTOLOGY
The Urine Cytology test is used to examine cells present in the urine under a microscope to detect any abnormal or cancerous changes. It is primarily used to identify cancers of the urinary tract, especially bladder cancer, as well as to detect infections or inflammatory conditions.
Abnormal findings in urine cytology may indicate the presence of malignant (cancerous) cells, precancerous changes, or severe infections affecting the urinary system. It is often recommended for patients with symptoms such as blood in urine (hematuria), recurrent urinary infections, or unexplained urinary problems. It may also be used to monitor patients with a history of bladder cancer.
The test requires a urine sample, usually collected at different times for better accuracy. The sample is examined by a pathologist under a microscope. Accurate results help in early detection of urinary tract cancers and guide further diagnostic and treatment decisions.
