URINE FASTING
The Urine Sugar (Fasting) test measures the presence of glucose in the urine after an overnight fast. Normally, glucose is not present in urine, as the kidneys reabsorb it back into the bloodstream. The presence of sugar in urine (glycosuria) may indicate elevated blood glucose levels.
A positive urine sugar test may suggest diabetes mellitus or poor blood sugar control. It can also be seen in conditions affecting kidney function. This test is often used as a preliminary screening tool and may be followed by blood glucose tests for confirmation. Doctors may recommend it during routine check-ups or when symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, or unexplained fatigue are present.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample collected after fasting. While it is not as precise as blood glucose testing, it provides useful initial information and helps in identifying the need for further evaluation and diagnosis.
