URINE AMINO ACID
The Urine Amino Acid test measures the levels of amino acids present in the urine. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and are normally reabsorbed by the kidneys. The presence of abnormal amounts in urine may indicate metabolic or kidney-related disorders.
Elevated or abnormal amino acid patterns in urine may suggest inherited metabolic disorders such as phenylketonuria (PKU), maple syrup urine disease, or other aminoacidopathies. It can also indicate problems with kidney tubular function where amino acids are not properly reabsorbed. This test is often recommended in infants, children, or individuals with developmental delays, unexplained neurological symptoms, or suspected metabolic disorders.
The test requires a urine sample, either random or collected over a specific period. Accurate results help doctors diagnose metabolic conditions early, guide treatment, and ensure proper management of inherited or acquired disorders.
