The Thrombin Time (TT) test measures the time taken for blood to clot after the addition of thrombin, an enzyme that converts fibrinogen into fibrin during the final stage of the clotting process. This test specifically evaluates the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin and helps assess the final step of blood coagulation.

A prolonged thrombin time may indicate low or abnormal fibrinogen levels, liver disease, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), or the presence of anticoagulants such as heparin. A normal TT suggests that the final clotting process is functioning properly. This test is often used along with other coagulation tests to provide a complete picture of clotting function.

The Thrombin Time test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help doctors diagnose clotting abnormalities, monitor treatment, and ensure proper management of bleeding or thrombotic disorders.
