SPUTUM FOR AFB

Sputum for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) is a laboratory test used to detect acid-fast bacteria, particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes tuberculosis (TB). It may be recommended when symptoms such as persistent cough, chest discomfort, fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss are present. A sputum sample is examined for evidence of TB bacteria. Results should be interpreted along with symptoms, medical history, and other TB investigations.
