SGPT
The SGPT (Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase), also known as ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase), test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood. SGPT is primarily found in the liver and is released into the bloodstream when liver cells are damaged, making it a more specific indicator of liver health.
Elevated SGPT levels are commonly associated with liver conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, or liver injury due to alcohol or medications.
