PTT
The Partial Thromboplastin Time (PTT) test measures the time it takes for blood to clot through the intrinsic and common pathways of the coagulation system. It helps evaluate the function of various clotting factors and is commonly used to assess bleeding and clotting disorders.
A prolonged PTT may indicate conditions such as hemophilia, liver disease, vitamin K deficiency, or the presence of anticoagulants like heparin. It is also widely used to monitor patients receiving heparin therapy. A normal PTT suggests that the clotting mechanism is functioning properly. Doctors may recommend this test in cases of unexplained bleeding, frequent bruising, or before surgical procedures.
The PTT test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help healthcare professionals diagnose coagulation abnormalities, monitor treatment, and ensure safe and effective patient care.
