LIVER PROFILE(LFT)
The Liver Profile (LFT) is a group of blood tests used to assess the health and functioning of the liver. It typically includes parameters such as bilirubin (total, direct, indirect), liver enzymes like SGOT (AST), SGPT (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), GGTP, and proteins such as total protein, albumin, and globulin. These tests provide a comprehensive evaluation of liver function, enzyme activity, and protein synthesis.
Abnormal LFT results may indicate liver diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver, cirrhosis, bile duct obstruction, or liver damage due to alcohol or medications. It is commonly recommended when patients have symptoms like jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, or as part of routine health check-ups. It also helps in monitoring patients with known liver conditions or those on long-term medications.
The Liver Profile test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate and timely results help doctors diagnose liver disorders, monitor disease progression, and guide appropriate treatment and lifestyle modifications for maintaining liver health.
