LIPID PROFILE Test
The Lipid Profile is a group of blood tests used to measure different types of fats (lipids) in the blood and assess the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It typically includes Total Cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), Triglycerides, and VLDL. This test provides a complete overview of heart health and lipid metabolism.
Abnormal lipid levels can increase the risk of conditions such as atherosclerosis, heart attack, and stroke. High LDL and triglycerides with low HDL are considered risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Doctors often recommend a lipid profile during routine health check-ups, especially for individuals with risk factors like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking, or family history of heart disease.
The Lipid Profile test is simple and usually requires a fasting blood sample for accurate results. Timely and accurate testing helps doctors assess heart risk, guide treatment decisions, and recommend lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and medications if needed to maintain cardiovascular health.
