LDH
The Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) test measures the level of LDH enzyme in the blood, which is found in many tissues including the heart, liver, muscles, kidneys, lungs, and blood cells. LDH is released into the bloodstream when cells are damaged or destroyed, making it a useful marker for detecting tissue injury.
Elevated LDH levels may indicate conditions such as liver disease, heart problems, muscle injury, hemolytic anemia, infections, or certain cancers. Since LDH is present in many parts of the body, it is not specific to one organ and is usually interpreted along with other tests for accurate diagnosis. Doctors may recommend this test when there are symptoms of tissue damage, unexplained illness, or to monitor disease progression.
The LDH test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help healthcare professionals identify tissue damage, monitor treatment response, and guide further diagnostic evaluation for better patient care.
