KETONE
The Ketone test measures the presence of ketone bodies in the urine (or sometimes blood). Ketones are produced when the body breaks down fat for energy instead of glucose, usually when there is a shortage of carbohydrates or insulin.
The presence of ketones (ketonuria) may indicate uncontrolled diabetes, especially diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious condition. It can also occur during prolonged fasting, starvation, low-carbohydrate diets, vomiting, or severe illness. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fruity-smelling breath. Doctors often recommend this test for diabetic patients, particularly when blood sugar levels are high or during illness.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample (or blood in some cases). Accurate results help in early detection of metabolic imbalances, guiding timely treatment and preventing complications.
