GTT
The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is a diagnostic test used to evaluate how efficiently the body processes glucose (sugar). It involves measuring blood glucose levels at specific intervals after consuming a measured amount of glucose solution. This test helps determine how well insulin is functioning and how effectively the body maintains normal blood sugar levels.
GTT is commonly used to diagnose diabetes mellitus, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Abnormal results may indicate impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, especially if blood sugar levels remain high even after a few hours of glucose intake. It is often recommended for individuals with risk factors such as obesity, family history of diabetes, or abnormal fasting glucose levels.
The test requires fasting before the procedure and multiple blood samples are taken over a few hours after drinking the glucose solution. Accurate results help doctors diagnose glucose metabolism disorders, guide treatment plans, and ensure proper management of blood sugar levels.
