GLUCOSE CHALLENGE-TEST
The Glucose Challenge Test (GCT) is a screening test used to evaluate how the body processes sugar (glucose), primarily during pregnancy to detect gestational diabetes. It involves consuming a measured amount of glucose solution, followed by a blood test after a specific time (usually 1 hour) to check blood sugar levels.
This test helps identify women who may have impaired glucose tolerance during pregnancy. If the blood sugar level is higher than normal, a follow-up test such as the Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) may be recommended for confirmation. Early detection of gestational diabetes is important to prevent complications for both the mother and baby.
The Glucose Challenge Test is simple, quick, and does not usually require fasting. It involves a single blood sample after glucose intake. Accurate results help doctors monitor pregnancy health and guide appropriate treatment, diet, and lifestyle changes for safe outcomes.
