GGTP
The Gamma Glutamyl Transferase (GGTP or GGT) test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood, which is mainly found in the liver and bile ducts. It is an important marker for assessing liver function and detecting problems related to bile flow.
Elevated GGTP levels may indicate liver diseases such as hepatitis, fatty liver, cirrhosis, or bile duct obstruction. It is also commonly increased in individuals with excessive alcohol consumption or due to certain medications. This test is often used along with other liver function tests like SGOT, SGPT, and ALP to better understand liver health and identify the exact cause of abnormal results.
The GGTP test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help doctors diagnose liver and biliary disorders, monitor treatment, and guide lifestyle changes for maintaining healthy liver function.
