GAD 65 ANTIBODIES
The GAD 65 Antibodies test measures the presence of antibodies against Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD), an enzyme found in pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin. The presence of these antibodies indicates an autoimmune response where the body’s immune system attacks its own insulin-producing cells.
A positive GAD 65 antibody test is commonly associated with Type 1 diabetes and Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA). It helps differentiate autoimmune diabetes from Type 2 diabetes, especially in adults with atypical symptoms. This test may be recommended in individuals with unexplained high blood sugar, early-onset diabetes, or when autoimmune causes are suspected.
