FLUID BIOCHEMISTRY
Fluid Biochemistry refers to the analysis of various body fluids such as pleural fluid (around the lungs), ascitic fluid (abdomen), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or synovial fluid (joints) to evaluate their chemical composition. This test helps determine the cause of fluid accumulation and provides important information about underlying diseases.
The analysis may include parameters such as protein, glucose, LDH, amylase, bilirubin, and electrolytes. Abnormal values can indicate conditions like infections (e.g., tuberculosis), inflammation, liver disease, kidney disorders, malignancy, or trauma. Fluid biochemistry is often used to differentiate between transudative and exudative fluids and to guide further diagnosis and treatment.
The test involves collecting a sample of the specific body fluid through a medical procedure such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, or lumbar puncture. Accurate results help doctors identify the cause of fluid accumulation, diagnose diseases, and plan appropriate treatment for effective patient care.
