FERRITIN
The Ferritin test measures the level of ferritin, a protein that stores iron in the body. It is one of the most important indicators of the body’s iron reserves and helps assess whether a person has sufficient iron for normal bodily functions. Ferritin levels reflect the amount of stored iron, making this test essential for evaluating iron deficiency or iron overload conditions.
Low ferritin levels usually indicate iron deficiency, which can lead to anemia and symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, hair loss, and pale skin. High ferritin levels may be seen in conditions like chronic inflammation, liver disease, infections, or iron overload disorders such as hemochromatosis. Doctors often recommend this test when patients show signs of anemia, unexplained fatigue, or as part of routine health check-ups.
The Ferritin test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help doctors diagnose iron-related disorders, monitor treatment like iron supplementation, and ensure proper management of a patient’s overall health.
