FDP
The Fibrin Degradation Products (FDP) test measures the fragments produced when blood clots are broken down in the body. These fragments are released during the natural process of clot dissolution (fibrinolysis). The FDP test helps assess abnormal clot formation and breakdown, making it an important marker for evaluating coagulation disorders.
Elevated FDP levels may indicate conditions such as disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, or severe infections and trauma. It can also be increased after major surgery or in certain liver diseases. Doctors often recommend this test when there are symptoms of abnormal bleeding, excessive clotting, or to monitor critically ill patients.
The FDP test is simple and requires a blood sample. Accurate results help healthcare professionals diagnose and monitor clotting and bleeding disorders, ensuring timely treatment and proper management of serious medical conditions.
