D-Dimer is a blood test used to help evaluate whether there may be increased blood clot formation and breakdown in the body. It may be recommended when symptoms such as unexplained leg swelling, chest pain, or sudden shortness of breath raise concern about a blood clot. A normal result can help rule out certain clotting conditions in appropriate patients. Results should be interpreted along with symptoms and clinical assessment.
