CRT
Capillary Refill Time (CRT) is a simple clinical test used to assess blood circulation and peripheral perfusion. It measures the time taken for color to return to a blanched area of skin, usually the fingertip or nail bed, after applying gentle pressure. This test helps evaluate how well blood is flowing through the small blood vessels.
A normal CRT is typically less than 2 seconds, indicating good blood circulation. A delayed CRT (more than 2 seconds) may suggest poor perfusion, which can be seen in conditions such as dehydration, shock, hypothermia, or circulatory problems. It is commonly used in emergency settings and during physical examinations to quickly assess a patient’s circulatory status.
The CRT test is quick, non-invasive, and does not require any blood sample or special equipment. It provides immediate information to healthcare professionals, helping in the early detection of circulatory issues and guiding prompt medical intervention.
