CONJUGATED
The Conjugated Bilirubin test measures the level of direct (conjugated) bilirubin in the blood. Conjugated bilirubin is formed in the liver when unconjugated bilirubin is processed and made water-soluble, allowing it to be excreted through bile into the digestive system. This test helps assess how well the liver is functioning and whether bile flow is normal.
Elevated levels of conjugated bilirubin may indicate liver diseases such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, or conditions affecting bile flow such as bile duct obstruction (gallstones or tumors). It is often evaluated along with total and unconjugated bilirubin to determine the cause of jaundice and other liver-related conditions. Symptoms may include yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine, and pale stools.
The Conjugated Bilirubin test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help doctors diagnose liver and biliary disorders, monitor treatment, and ensure proper management of a patient’s health.
