BILE SALT
The Bile Salts (BS) test is used to detect the presence of bile salts in urine. Bile salts are produced in the liver and normally secreted into the bile for digestion. Under normal conditions, they are not present in urine, so their detection indicates a possible problem with liver function or bile flow.
A positive bile salts test may suggest liver disorders such as hepatitis, jaundice, or obstruction of the bile ducts. It is often performed along with bile pigments (BP) and other liver function tests to help diagnose and evaluate liver and biliary conditions. Patients with symptoms like yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or abdominal discomfort may be advised this test.
The test is simple and requires a urine sample. Accurate results help doctors identify liver or biliary abnormalities early and guide further diagnostic evaluation and treatment.
