BILE PIGMENT
The Bile Pigments (BP) test is used to detect the presence of bile pigments, mainly bilirubin, in the urine. Normally, bile pigments are not found in urine, as bilirubin is processed by the liver and excreted through bile. Their presence in urine indicates a possible problem with liver function or bile flow.
A positive BP test may suggest liver disorders such as hepatitis, jaundice, cirrhosis, or bile duct obstruction. It is often performed along with the Bile Salts (BS) test and other liver function tests to evaluate liver health. Patients with symptoms like yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark-colored urine, or abdominal discomfort may be advised this test.
The BP test is simple and requires a urine sample. Accurate results help doctors detect liver and biliary disorders early and guide further diagnosis and treatment.
