AVERAGE BLOOD GLUCOS
The Average Blood Glucose test, also known as Estimated Average Glucose (eAG), represents the average level of blood sugar over the past 2–3 months. It is calculated from the HbA1c value and expressed in the same units as regular blood glucose (mg/dL), making it easier for patients to understand their long-term glucose control.
Higher average blood glucose levels indicate poor diabetes control and an increased risk of complications such as heart disease, kidney damage, and nerve problems. Lower or normal values suggest good blood sugar management. This measurement is especially useful for patients with diabetes to track how well their treatment plan is working over time.
The test itself does not require a separate sample, as it is derived from the HbA1c test. It provides a clear and practical way for both patients and doctors to monitor long-term glucose control and make necessary adjustments in diet, lifestyle, or medication for better health outcomes.
