AEC
The Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) test measures the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, present in the blood. Eosinophils play an important role in the body’s immune system, especially in fighting parasitic infections and participating in allergic reactions. This test helps assess immune activity and detect certain underlying health conditions.
An increased AEC level may indicate allergic conditions such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, skin disorders, or parasitic infections. It can also be seen in some autoimmune diseases and certain blood disorders. A low AEC is generally not clinically significant but may be observed in conditions like stress or after steroid treatment. Doctors often recommend this test when patients have symptoms like persistent allergies, breathing issues, skin rashes, or unexplained infections.
The AEC test is simple and requires a small blood sample. Accurate results help doctors diagnose and monitor allergic conditions, infections, and other related disorders, ensuring proper treatment and care.
