ADA LEVEL
The Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) Level test measures the activity of the ADA enzyme in body fluids such as blood, pleural fluid, ascitic fluid, or cerebrospinal fluid. ADA plays an important role in the immune system, particularly in the functioning of lymphocytes, which help fight infections.
Elevated ADA levels are commonly associated with tuberculosis (TB), especially in pleural, peritoneal, or meningeal infections. It may also be increased in certain infections, inflammatory conditions, or some malignancies. This test is often recommended when tuberculosis is suspected, particularly in cases of unexplained fluid accumulation in the chest or abdomen.
The ADA test requires a sample of blood or body fluid, depending on the condition being evaluated. Accurate results help doctors support the diagnosis of tuberculosis and other infections, enabling timely treatment and better patient outcomes.
