24 HRS URINE A.F.B.
The 24 Hours Urine A.F.B. (Acid-Fast Bacilli) test is used to detect the presence of tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in the urine. It helps in diagnosing genitourinary tuberculosis, a form of TB that affects the kidneys, urinary tract, or reproductive organs.
A positive A.F.B. result indicates the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the urinary system, suggesting active infection. This test is often recommended when patients have symptoms such as persistent urinary infections, blood in urine, unexplained fever, weight loss, or when tuberculosis outside the lungs is suspected.
The test requires collection of urine samples over a 24-hour period to improve detection accuracy. The samples are then examined under a microscope or processed further for confirmation. Accurate results help doctors diagnose TB early, start appropriate treatment, and prevent complications.
